Steam Train Snow Day!
Winter Wonderland & Fun on the WW&F
Ride the Narrow Gauge railway – one of Midcoast Maine’s historic hidden gems – amidst the winter snow!
This winter, ride the historic WW&F “narrow gauge” railway – one of Midcoast Maine’s hidden gems – on a five-mile (round trip) 50-minute excursion.
Board your train at Sheepscot station for a steam-powered ride through the scenic, snow-covered wild pine forests, farmlands and hamlets of the Sheepscot Valley to Top of Mountain. After a layover to allow the locomotive to “run-around” the train, we’ll return back to Sheepscot station where you’ll want to explore our railyard, examine our displays, and peruse our gift shop.
For an optional true Maine adventure of backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, etc., debark the train at Alna Center and enjoy a 90 minute layover for self-guided outdoor activities in the unspoiled backwoods of Alna! Those choosing to take the train to create their own outdoor adventure should be back at Alna Center station to be picked up by the last homebound train no later than 3:15pm on Feb. 7, 14, or 21st.
Ticket price includes the steam train ride as well as parking at Sheepscot. We a pleased to accommodate passengers requiring extra assistance, including those in wheelchairs on this train. Small, well-behaved dogs are allowed at the discretion of the Conductor (limit 1 per train; first come first served.)
Note that the railroad cars are not heated, so please dress accordingly.
Steam Train Snow Day trains depart Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) promptly at their scheduled times.
We look forward to seeing you on the narrow gauge!
Special Notes
The Steam Train Snow Day does not include connecting service to SeaLyon Farm (or a horse-drawn sleigh ride.) This train also does not traverse the Mountain Extension to Trout Brook. The train cars are not heated – please dress accordingly!

5 Stars Without Hesitation.

I’ve been to the Railway Museum several times over the past few years. The last time I rode the train was this winter. Beautiful and a whole different experience. We even got to help turn the train – a unique and fun experience.
