Steam & Sleighs to SeaLyon Farm
Winter Wonderland and Fun!
Ride the railway to SeaLyon Farm for an amazing outdoor Winter adventure aboard steam trains and horse-drawn sleighs!
Board your train at Sheepscot station for a 20 minute steam-powered ride through the winter wonderland of Alna to Top of Mountain, to board horse-drawn sleighs for your trip to SeaLyon Farm where a plethora of goods will be available for perusal and purchase (including their famous lavender products!)
At SeaLyon Farm, visitors will be able to enjoy a bonfire, hot beverages and food from local vendors, and other fun activities. The entire experience takes about 2.5 hours.
Ticket price includes all transportation (historic steam train, extended horse-drawn sleigh ride, and tractor wagon ride), admission to SeaLyon Farm, as well as parking at Sheepscot. All food, additional refreshments, and other farm products are sold separately by SeaLyon Farm and their partners. Note that due to the nature of this event, wheelchairs can not be accommodated.
Note that the railroad cars (and sleighs) are not heated, so please dress accordingly.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of this event, wheelchairs can not be accommodated. While we love animals at the farm, household pets are not allowed.
If you care to engage in outdoor activities, please bring your own skis, snowshoes, or outdoor gear.
Trains depart Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) promptly at 10am, 11:45am, and 1:30pm. Do not drive to SeaLyon Farm – you’ll miss the train!
We look forward to seeing you on the narrow gauge!

About the Weather and Cancellations
Obviously, this event is very weather-centric. A decision will be made roughly 3-4 days before each event based upon many factors – including the safety of the horses (who do not navigate well in the mud.) If the ground is frozen (but no snow) horse-drawn wagons will replace the sleighs. If extreme weather (or weather that will produce unsafe conditions for the horses) is predicted, all passengers will be notified via email or phone, and given the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
This is an outdoor event that takes place primarily on a farm. Please make note of the weather forecast and dress accordingly. There is very limited shelter at the farm and the train itself is not heated.
If the date or time you want to attend is sold out, please email info@wwfry.org to be notified if tickets become available. Even if a train is shown as “sold out”, we can usually accommodate an extra person or two if the size of your group increases unexpectedly. In a similar vein, if your plans change, please email info@wwfry.org so that your purchase can be refunded and your tickets released for someone else to enjoy.
About SeaLyon Farm
SeaLyon Farm is beautifully situated amongst the rolling woods and fields of Alna just south of Head Tide and adjacent to the WW&F’s Top of Mountain station. Horse-drawn sleighs meet every arriving train to transport each group to the farm. Everyone will have the opportunity for an extended tour of the farm and countryside aboard a horse-drawn sleigh while traversing to, from, or about the farm.
Depending on the weather and nature of the event, activities and vendors at SeaLyon Farm will likely include:
- Horse-drawn sleigh rides to, from, or about the farm.
- Tasty food prepared on-site from select, local vendors.
- Jams, salsas, lavender products, and many other goodies from the SeaLyon Farm Store.
- Maple syrup and other treats from Marcoux Family Farm.
- Lavender Ice Cream – Round Top Ice Cream has created this unique flavor – using lavender harvested from SeaLyon Farm (subject to seasonal availability).
- Additional vendors from the Wiscasset Farmers Market and other local farms, artisans, and crafters.
- A bonfire to make s’mores over, held underneath a fire pit pavilion – perfect for inclement weather.
- Visits with the SeaLyon Farm goats: Pumpkin, Lavender, and Honey. Additional animals may be present too.
- Exploration of the farm grounds and scenic pond.
There will be an approximately 60 minute layover to enjoy the farm and other activities before the narrow gauge train returns you to Sheepscot station.
SeaLyon is a working farm that grows agricultural products and raises bees for honey. As such, those who do not enjoy the outdoors or appreciate farm animals, have severe mobility issues, or wish to wear clothing/footwear that is not suitable for outdoor activities may wish to consider a train ride or other event that does not include a visit to the farm. For their safety, and the safety of the farm animals, pets are not permitted at events held at SeaLyon Farm. Please make note of the weather forecast and dress accordingly. There is very limited shelter at the farm and the train itself is not heated (or air conditioned).
The WW&F Railway partners with SeaLyon Farm throughout the year on a variety of excursions including Steam & Sleighs, Eastertime Eggspress, Pig Roast Farmstand Express, Lavender Pickin’ Trains, and Pumpkin Pickin’ Trains. SeaLyon Farm also sponsors the Victorian Christmas Marketplace which takes place at the WW&F Pavilion at Alna Center each holiday season.
Perfect

Beautiful cold winter day. Perfect for a Train/Sleigh ride. SeaLyon Farm is very nice. The campfire was very welcome. WW&F Railroad is great place to take a glimpse into the past. Thank you for great day!

Enjoyment

It was a fun trip back in time both on the Railroad and the horse drawn wagon. Enjoyed the hot chocolate by a wood fire at Sealyon Farm and a sleigh ride through the fields.
I would like to take another trip on the Railroad to a different location to see what enjoyment that brings.
