Midcoast Conservancy and Trout Brook Preserve
The mission of Midcoast Conservancy is to protect vital lands and waters on a scale that matters and to inspire wonder and action on behalf of all species and the earth. Formed by combining four local land trusts in 2016 and a fifth in 2019, Midcoast Conservancy is now one of the largest regional conservation organizations in Maine, with over 13,000 acres of land conserved, keeping the area healthy for wildlife, fisheries, climate resiliency and local economies.
The 126-acre Trout Brook Preserve protects over 4,200 feet of the lower reaches of Trout Brook as well as frontage along the main stem of the Sheepscot River. A 1.6 mile loop trail on the southern portion of the preserve traverses old orchards and pasture lands and affords a look at one of the wider sections of Trout Brook.

About the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway
Ride over the Sheepscot Valley’s Narrow Gauge Railway aboard a historic steam train for a trip back in time. Explore our facilities and workshops where exploration is encouraged and inquisitiveness is rewarded. Experience the nearly-lost art of running and maintaining a steam powered narrow gauge railroad.
Regarding Weather & Cancellations
Generally speaking, hikes occur rain or shine. Please dress accordingly as there is limited shelter available once you disembark from the train at the nature preserve. Only if extreme weather (or weather that will produce unsafe conditions for hiking) is predicted, all passengers will be notified via email or phone, and given the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
If the date you want to attend is sold out, please email info@wwfry.org to be notified if tickets become available. In a similar vein, if your plans change, please email info@wwfry.org so that your purchase can be refunded and your tickets released for someone else to enjoy.
