Free & Frosty Winter Steam Express
Ride for FREE (or by donation) ONE DAY ONLY!
Here’s Your Chance to Ride the Narrow Gauge – for FREE!
This winter, ride the historic WW&F “narrow gauge” railway – one of Midcoast Maine’s hidden gems – on a five-mile (round trip) 50-minute excursion.
Board your train at Sheepscot station for a FREE steam-powered ride through the scenic, snow-covered wild pine forests, farmlands and hamlets of the Sheepscot Valley to Top of Mountain. After a layover to allow the locomotive to “run-around” the train, we’ll return back to Sheepscot station where you’ll want to explore our railyard, examine our displays, and inspect our repair & restoration shop.
Your ticket ($10 donation suggested) includes the steam train ride as well as parking at Sheepscot. We a pleased to accommodate passengers requiring extra assistance, including those in wheelchairs on this train. Small, well-behaved dogs are allowed at the discretion of the Conductor (limit 1 per train; first come first served.)
Note that the railroad cars are not heated, so please dress accordingly. The WW&F gift shop (and waiting room) will be closed during this event – please feel free to wait inside in our heated repair shop where we are building locomotive 11.
Free & Frosty Winter Steam Express trains depart Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) promptly at 11am & 1pm.
We look forward to seeing you on the narrow gauge!
Special Notes
The Free & Frosty Winter Steam Express does not include connecting service to SeaLyon Farm (or a horse-drawn sleigh ride.) This train also does not traverse the Mountain Extension to Trout Brook. The train cars are not heated – please dress accordingly!
Also Available: Steam & Sleighs!

5 Stars Without Hesitation.

I’ve been to the Railway Museum several times over the past few years. The last time I rode the train was this winter. Beautiful and a whole different experience. We even got to help turn the train – a unique and fun experience.
