Ride the railway to SeaLyon Farm for an amazing Winter adventure aboard steam trains and horse-drawn sleighs!
Board your train at Sheepscot station for a 20 minute steam-powered ride through the winter wonderland of Alna to Top of Mountain, to board horse-drawn sleighs for your trip to SeaLyon Farm where a plethora of goods will be available for perusal and purchase (including their famous lavender products!)
At SeaLyon Farm, visitors will be able to enjoy a bonfire, hot beverages and food from local vendors, and other fun activities. The entire experience takes about 2.5 hours.
Ticket price includes all transportation (historic steam train, extended horse-drawn sleigh ride, and tractor wagon ride), admission to SeaLyon Farm, as well as parking at Sheepscot. All food, additional refreshments, and other farm products are sold separately by SeaLyon Farm and their partners. Note that due to the nature of this event, wheelchairs can not be accommodated.
Note that the railroad cars (and sleighs) are not heated, so please dress accordingly.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of this event, wheelchairs can not be accommodated. While we love animals at the farm, household pets are not allowed.
If you care to engage in outdoor activities, please bring your own skis, snowshoes, or outdoor gear.
Trains depart Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) promptly at 10am, 11:45am, and 1:30pm. Do not drive to SeaLyon Farm – you’ll miss the train!

SeaLyon Farm
SeaLyon Farm is situated is beautifully situated amongst the rolling woods and fields of Alna just south of Head Tide and adjacent to the WW&F’s Top of Mountain Station. During Steam & Sleighs, the train will meet sleighs (and wagons) to bring each group to the farm. Everyone will have the opportunity for an extended tour of the farm and countryside aboard a horse-drawn sleigh (or wagon when conditions warrant) while traversing to or from the farm.
In addition to the horse drawn sleigh rides, activities and vendors at SeaLyon Farm are scheduled to include:
- Tasty food and homemade products from select local vendors.
- Saturdays February 10 and 17, food from Portable Pie Place.
- Sunday February 25, food from Bowlicious.
- Jams, salsas, and lavender products from the SeaLyon Farm Store.
- Maple syrup and other treats from Marcoux Family Farm.
- An impressive bonfire to keep warm and make s’mores over, along with cornhole, checkers, and tic-tac-toe boards.
- Visits with the SeaLyon Farm goats: Pumpkin, Lavender, and Honey.
- Tractor wagon rides.
Exact options and food vendors are subject to adjustment. However, the core event – riding a historic steam powered narrow gauge train to a farm for a sleighride will not change.
After arriving at the farm, hike down to the pond, browse the farm store, enjoy a snack, games and the bonfire. Bring snowshoes or cross country skis to create your own winter adventure. Then ride the sleigh (or wagon) back to the railway station. There will be an approximately 75 minute layover to enjoy the farm (and sleighride) before the narrow gauge train returns you to Sheepscot station.
Sugar and Spice Farm
Sugar and Spice Farm (located in Unity, Maine) grows a wide variety of herbs and spices with no pesticides or chemicals and produces world class artisan chocolate. They are often present at SeaLyon Farm during special events, sharing their gourmet chocolate, vegan products, and quality spices. Using only couverture grade chocolate, which is the highest standard for grading chocolate, all chocolates are hand dipped by an artisan chocolatier. Spice blends consist of less salt than alternatives, are free of harmful preservatives, carefully researched, and created from local sources whenever possible.
Marcoux Family Farm
Marcoux Family Farm is a disabled veteran and family owned/operated Maple Syrup Producer in Wiscasset, ME. They produce 100% pure wood-fired maple products, including barrel-aged, infused, and pure maple syrups. They are omnipresent at SeaLyon Farm during special events, selling maple confections and other goodies.
About the Weather and Cancellations
Obviously, this event is very weather-centric. A decision will be made roughly 3-4 days before each event based upon many factors – including the safety of the horses (who do not navigate well in the mud.) If the ground is frozen (but no snow) horse-drawn wagons will replace the sleighs. If extreme weather (or weather that will produce unsafe conditions for the horses) is predicted, all passengers will be notified via email or phone, and given the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
This is an outdoor event that takes place primarily on a farm. Please make note of the weather forecast and dress accordingly. There is very limited shelter at the farm and the train itself is not heated.
