Work Car 1004 – Fire Fighting Car

The base for this fire-fighting car is one of the three dumpcar chassis, over which this water tank and water pump motor were attached.  The framework around the tank and motor were added to allow equipment (shovels, picks, and so-forth), plus backpack water tanks to be carried.  When the steam locomotive is running, the car is on standby during “Class 3” fire danger days, and follows every steam train on “Class 4” fire danger days.  On “Class 5” fire danger days, steam does not run.

The car also does extra duty as a weed control sprayer.  The tank is filled with weed killer, and a spray attachment is added.
